CENTER MASS TRAINING POLICIES
PHILOSOPHY: The team at Center Mass makes every effort to ensure our courses are professionally and constructively conducted. Our goal is to set a standard in how to conduct instruction in the area’s we specialize in, while trying to impart skills and information that could save lives. We strive to deliver this service through relevant and challenging, yet enjoyable courses. Our instructors are completely dedicated to ensuring that you learn all you can during our courses, and that you improve in your skills and knowledge while you are with us.
TACTICAL & INSTRUCTOR SCHOOLS: Only open to law enforcement and military personnel. These schools are performance based and require students to pass a written examination, our qualification course of fire, and assigned projects. Students should be in good physical condition as training evolutions include running, crawling, and a reasonable degree of agility during these schools. We do this to simulate what is happening “on the street”. We would be remiss if we did not include some element of realistic stress in our training. Movement, cover, and tactics are as important as “static shooting” in our courses. The techniques that we teach are those designed and suitable for law enforcement use of force situations. We also can tailor a tactical, firearms specific, or an instructor school to an agency’s needs for contract courses.
We utilize the best practices of instruction with major emphasis on academics, instructor development and officer survival techniques. Our schools provide a variety of realistic and innovative courses of fire that include positional shooting, moving targets, hostage rescue evolutions, shooting through intermediate barriers and low light evolutions of fire. Center Mass is one of the only training entities in the world currently using real-time live fire video scenarios using the CAPS DVD judgment training system. This technology allows us to give our students exact feedback on performance and judgment while the student uses their actual sniper or patrol rifle and ammunition under the most realistic conditions possible.
Our training is endorsed by the American Sniper Association and the International Association of Counter-Terrorism & Security Professionals. Additionally, our Patrol Rifle Policy, Training, Equipment & Operational Considerations Manual has been adopted by the National Tactical Officers Association. All of our LE courses have been approved by the Michigan Council on Law Enforcement Standards.
SCHOOLS FOR OUR CITIZENS: We support our citizens constitutional right to hold and bare arms. Therefore we provide training services in the defensive use of firearms for our citizens. Each of these schools go far beyond what many typical classes on the same subject matter teach. These schools focus on the fundamentals of weapon handling and safety, to include the use of deadly force to protect ones self or others. These schools gradually increase tempo from the academic / static mode, to the dynamic mode, and in some schools to the interactive mode of training. Although these schools are conducted at a moderately slow pace by many standards, they may still be physically challenging for students with pre-existing injuries or other health related problems. We recommend that students are in good physical condition to take any of these courses. As always, one of our primary goals in teaching the private citizen is to educate them on how difficult the law enforcement officers job can be at times. This education and experience only fosters our citizens appreciation of their public servants in our opinion.
ADMINISTRATION:
Only paid registrations hold slots for our schools (First come first served). No refunds are given after the school starts.
We reserve the right to cancel a school due to low enrollment.
Finally, we are very thorough in our teaching and maintenance of firearms safety, so if any individual becomes a safety hazard they will be expelled from the course with no refund.
CERTIFICATION'S: Center Mass certifies our graduates for a period of three years. This is done not as a marketing ploy, but more so as a service to the agencies we train to ensure their students and instructors stay current in the area they specialize in. Tactics, techniques, and equipment tend to change or develop over time and the only way we have found to keep students up to date is to provide their agencies a vehicle in providing periodic training updates and recertification’s.
CENTER MASS INSTRUCTORS: Our instructors are all current, former, or retired law enforcement officers or military personnel with extensive backgrounds in SWAT, special operations, sniping and or rifle related subject matter. They bring first hand knowledge and experience in the resolution of critical incidents. They also bring lessons that have been learned from around the country to validate training exercises and prepare the student for circumstances others have encountered. Several of our instructors have been published in national publications. Four of our staff have taught at national level law enforcement conferences by invitation. We are also proud to have had several of our instructors, who are military reservists, serve in combat zones overseas since 9-11. Our instructors are also members of one or more of the following professional organizations: NTOA, ASA, IALEFI, ILEETA, NRA, IACSP, or Police Marksman Association. Three of our staff have served on the board of the American Sniper Association. One currently serves on the boards of 3 national associations. Detailed professional biographies of our instructors are available upon request.
