In 1993, members of the Livonia Police Department (MI) SWAT Team were discontented with the then current SWAT emblem.  They set out to craft an emblem which they believed embodied the spirit and mission of tactical teams.  The result of their efforts was the SWAT Eagle.

Although Center Mass now owns all rights to this design and has been the driving force since 1998 behind the international commercialization of this insignia, we believe that all SWAT Operators and SWAT Teams past, present and future, who choose to use this device, owe the Livonia PD and especially those individual officers who conceived the idea with the recognition they deserve and a debt of gratitude for the sense of pride this insignia has helped to create in today's professional SWAT Operator. 

Finally, and certainly not least, we remind Law Enforcement Officers and LE Agencies who use this insignia that a debt of gratitude and the utmost respect must also be paid to SWAT’s biggest brothers, the U.S. Navy SEAL’s, as their hard earned and treasured trident inspired today's law Enforcement SWAT Eagle insignia. Thank you SEAL's for all you do for our nation, for the lessons you share with law enforcement, and the sense of pride that you have helped develop in the Law Enforcement Special Operations Community.
